If you own or operate a digital kiosk or display screen in a retail environment, there are some key technology components you should have in place. This article covers everything you need to know to optimize your screens.

Retail Kiosk Content Management Software

Whether you are looking to display product information to in-store customers, promote deals and coupons, or serve ads on your screens, you will need a solid Content Management System (CMS) in place first.

A fully functioning CMS will allow you to display all types of content on your kiosks or screens, while also managing network operations and ensuring there are no major technological issues. Some retailers choose to create their own CMS. However, if digital displays are a new concept to you, or if you are looking to scale quickly, it might be best to look to industry experts to set this technology up for you. Regardless of what route you choose, Content Management Systems are an essential component of any display network.

Technology for Monetizing Retail Screens

The most savvy retailers know that display screens can do much more than just offer promotional messages -- they can actually be used to increase revenue!

Oftentimes, this is done through a piece of technology called an Ad Server. Ad serving technology allows you to pull in ads from paying advertisers and share them with your valuable customers. A true unified ad server will give you the option to work with advertisers in several different ways, most commonly through both direct and programmatic selling. If you have never used an ad server before, here are some ways you can increase revenue through retail screens or kiosks.

Technology for Unlocking New Retail Revenue

If your company is interested in making additional revenue from digital displays, but perhaps doesn’t have the time or resources to form relationships with advertisers, programmatic selling might be for you.

Through a platform, usually called a Supply-Side Platform (SSP), you will be able to provide information on your display screens as well as any content restrictions, and the platform will automatically offer you advertisers who could be a fit. This is especially beneficial for connecting you to new advertisers you might not have been aware of, while maintaining control of your kiosks or screens. There are a lot of SSPs out there, but not all have the same capabilities. Download our guide to find the right SSP for you.
